Simon on CAD - Creating Bespoke Designs

Simon is the Technical Manager (top left) and has been with the company for 6 years, joining Diamond Centre from Swansea University, having completed a degree in Marine Biology. He ensures the customers bespoke designs are created as CAD (Computer Aided Design) before wax models are produced - then over to the workshop for the actual piece to be made in the chosen precious metal. As well as Simon's technical role, he is also a skilled goldsmith, so understands the complexities of the different metals.

There is no stopping Simon, as in his spare time he belongs to two bands and plays bass guitar, one of which recently won battle of the bands. Shortly he will be spending a week in a recording studio.. so get his autograph now ladies !!

James in the Workshop - our skilled Goldsmith

Keeping it in the family as James (above) is Simon's brother, both originally coming to Cardiff from Pembrokeshire. James has been with us for 5 years after his apprenticeship as a toolmaker and is now a skilled craftsman, working in the workshop as a goldsmith. They get on famously which is just as well, as at the moment James and Simon are compiling an internet catalogue - this is a challenging process as they have had to take individual photographs of the pieces, testing both their skills and I'm sure patience.

It’s a good job that James’ regular visits to the gym keeps him fit and de-stressed - he keeps us all on our toes with his happy go-lucky personality.

Abbie Williams, who lives locally near Llanharan - described by Diamond Centre directors as "one of the most exciting talents to emerge in recent years" was given the opportunity last year by Diamond Centre of Wales, to showcase at their Gallery Event, dozens of her original designs.

Now the 18-year-old Cowbridge schoolgirl has been offered a place at the prestigious Birmingham School of Jewellery at Birmingham University to study for 3 years.

Diamond Centre of Wales discovered she had an ‘exceptional flair’ for jewellery design and have supported her during her time at Cowbridge Comp. offering Abbie part-time work and showcasing her designs.

Kelvin James said “Abbie is immensely talented – and prolific. We have seen many designs over the years but Abbie keeps coming up with fresh ideas which are not only very attractive but practical.”

Sharon James said “Abbie has exceptional flair and is already winning commissions. We are delighted to be able to give her the opportunity to show off her work and will continue to support her. I have no doubt she can make a name for herself in this field.”

Diamond Centre of Wales continue to support Abbie, and will be offering her employment during the holidays - best of luck Abbie!
